A man who police are very familiar with in Kelowna will appear in court today after spending the weekend in jail. 46 year old Justin Wayne Collins is in custody and has been charged with Break and Enter after an incident at a store in the 1200 block of Cannery Lane last week. He had just been released by the courts after being charged with theft and mischief two days earlier.

Leaner snowpacks in Western Canada and U-S mountain ranges is causing drier summers, increasing wildfire risk and could cause energy issues in BC. Holly Chubb, a climate researcher at UBC says hydroelectric power is a major source and is generally fed from the glaciers which fills reservoirs. She adds we may have to adjust our usage, consumption, and think about how we are utilizing hydro power.

The fastest 96-year-old woman in the world lives in Ottawa. Rejeanne Fairhead has broken the 5K race record by finishing the Tamarack Ottawa Race on the weekend in just over 51 minutes. Not only did she break the world record for women over the age of 95, Fairhead demolished it by close to five minutes.

West Kelowna residents are invited to an open house tomorrow to give thoughts on shaping the future of the city’s parks and recreational trails. There’s the opportunity to meet with staff and ask questions, view the display boards and complete questionnaires. It happens at the West Kelowna Yacht Club on Gellatly from 3-7pm.

Mexican authorities say they’ve made an arrest in the killing of a Quebec man earlier this month in the Pacific coast beach town of Puerto Escondido. The Oaxaca state attorney general says a man identified only by his initials was taken into custody in connection with the death of Victor Masson. He was found dead in his car 2 weeks ago.

Local officials in Ukraine’s capital say Kyiv has been subjected to the largest drone attack since the start of Russia’s war as the city prepared to mark the anniversary of its founding. At least one person was killed in the attack that used Iranian-made drones. It lasted more than five hours yesterday and air defense reportedly shot down more than 40 of the aircraft.

A Coroner’s inquiry has been set to review the death of a man who was in Kelowna RCMP custody. Edward Waddell died in 2017, and while the Independent Investigations Office looked into the case, it didn’t issue a public report. The coroner and jury will review the case, witness statements and evidence at the Kelowna Law Courts starting June 13.

Twitter has dropped out of a voluntary European Union agreement to combat online disinformation. It appears to be the latest move by Elon Musk to loosen the reins on the social media company. He has rolled back previous anti-misinformation rules, and has thrown its verification system and content-moderation policies into chaos pursuing his goal of turning Twitter into a digital town square.

Moviegoers south of the border wanted to be under the sea on the Memorial Day weekend. ‘The Little Mermaid’ remake, according to studio estimates brought in $95.5 Million in North America. It’s expected to bring in more than 117 million before the long weekend is over. It knocked Vin Diesel and ‘Fast X’ out of the top spot.

The NHL West final continues later today in Dallas. The Stars picked up a road win in Vegas on Saturday but the Golden Knights still lead the best of seven, three games to two.

Canada took a 5-2 win over Germany in yesterday’s IIHF World Championship gold-medal game. It’s our 28th gold at the Worlds, breaking a tie with Russia to become the winningest nation in the tournament’s history.

Two 4th quarter touchdowns helped the Saskatchewan Roughriders to a 30 to 27 win over the BC Lions in CFL exhibition play on Saturday.
