Roll Up To Win winner receives new car

Tim Hortons gave away 15 new vehicles as part of its 2023 Roll Up To Win contest, and an Armstrong resident drove away with one of them.

Marty Eckert was presented with a 2023 Volkswagen Taos, valued at $38,195, at the Armstrong Tim Hortons Wednesday morning (May 31).

The new SUV was supplied by Vernon Volkswagen, with the company’s financial services manager, Angela Sparrow, among those on hand for the presentation.

Eckert told Vernon Matters, he’s a loyal customer at the coffee and donut outlet.

“Definitely. At least two times a day for sure,” he said.

The married, sheet-metal worker said he’s never won a prize of this magnitude.

“Never. I’ve never won anything really.”

Eckert said he finds the new app-based Roll Up To Win format easier than the former method of actually rolling up the cup rim to see the prize.

He told us the story about the moment he found out he’d won the car.

“I was just sitting on the couch, looking on my [Tim Hortons] app. I had 16 roll-ups to do, so I started doing them. I won a few coffee, and on the very last roll, I won the car,” Eckert recalled.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he laughed. I thought it was a joke. I had to ask my wife if it was real.”

According to Tim Hortons, the new Volkswagen Taos includes an advanced driver assistance systems package and an alloy wheel package.

The Roll Up To Win contest ran from March 6 to April 2, 2023.
