BC Parks is introducing a new feature to its camping reservation service. It will provide email notifications when a previously booked campsite becomes available at a specific campground. People can sign up to receive as many as five alerts and all the info is at camping.bcparks.ca .
Google confirms it will remove links to Canadian news on its platforms in Canada because of the Liberal government’s new law, which forces digital giants to compensate media outlets for content they share or otherwise repurpose online. It did not say exactly when, but it will happen before the law comes into force.
Some people just don’t get it. RCMP were called about 5pm on Monday after it was noticed that a dog had been inside a locked car since at least 3:30 on Sunset Drive and was unresponsive. Police broke into the car and were able to rouse the dog with water. The owner finally showed up and was fined $100. It is illegal for the public to break into a car, so call the SPCA during business hours or 911 if you see an animal in distress.
A Canadian nurse whose straight talk about sex made her a hit on radio and TV has died. Sue Johanson was 93 and got her start setting up a birth control clinic at a Toronto high school in 1970, and hit the airwaves a decade later with her first radio show. She gained a loyal following, first on the radio and later on both Canadian and American TV.
Suncor Energy says it’s making progress in resolving the disruptions this week in the wake of a cyberattack. It says debit and credit transactions are once again available at most Petro-Canada stations. The company hasn’t provided details about the type of cyberattack or which other parts of its operations may have been affected.
The 300 block of Bernard Avenue from Water to Pandosy will shut down to traffic tomorrow and remain that way for the rest of the summer as Meet Me on Bernard kicks into full gear. There is no road closure for the 400 and 500 blocks, although the patio events will continue there.
Victoria says staff members at the Children’s Ministry who failed to check on two Indigenous children who were systematically abused by their foster parents have lost their jobs. A judge sentenced the foster parents to 10 years each in prison for the death of the 11-year-old boy and his eight-year-old sister’s serious injuries. Indigenous groups have called for the resignation of Children’s Minister Mitzi Dean and the overhaul of the province’s foster care system.
The Communications Security Establishment is revealing it disrupted and removed harmful terrorist content spread online by foreign, ideologically motivated extremists last year. The latest report from Canada’s cyberspy agency says it significantly reduced the online reach of those extremists and their ability to recruit new members.

After a day off, the Kelowna Falcons start a home and home series with Kamloops this evening at Elks Stadium. Game starts about 6:35.
The Toronto Blue Jays welcome another AL East team, the Boston Red Sox to Rogers Centre for the Canada Day long weekend. Last night against San Francisco the Jays took a 2-1 win thanks to a two-run homer from Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Week 4 in the CFL begins tonight as Ottawa hosts Edmonton. The BC Lions are in Toronto on Monday.
