A house in West Kelowna sustained major damage in an overnight fire that was not connected to the McDougall Creek wildfire.
Around 1 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, West Kelowna Fire Rescue received reports of a fire in a garage on Shaleridge Place in West Kelowna Estates.
“First arriving crews found a single family, three-story residence fully involved with embers casting throughout the neighbourhood,” fire chief Jason Brolund said.
Four engines and 20 firefighters responded from WKFR and they managed to contained the fire to the one residence.
“The house sustained major damage,” Brolund said.
A bush truck and four firefighters from the Kelowna Fire Department assisted with patrols through the neighbourhood to prevent spot fires from embers.
“We thank them for their assistance,” Brolund said.
The fire chief said the cause of the blaze is under investigation and not believed to be related to the McDougall Creek fire.
There were no injuries.
“The single occupant of the home is safe and in the care of Emergency Support Services,” Brolund advised.
