It looks like someone could have been using commercial trucks for target practice in Peachland 10 days ago. It happened at a business in the 4900 block of Trepanier Road. One tractor-trailer and four dump trucks were hit. RCMP were able to get some surveillance footage, but the identification of the suspects has yet to be confirmed.

A seventh Canadian has died in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, but Global Affairs isn’t saying where or when. Officials are also confirming two Canadians are still missing following the October 7th attacks. Global Affairs says Canada is urging rapid and unimpeded humanitarian access into the Gaza Strip.

At least 27 people are dead and areas of Acapulco, Mexico, have been left in ruins after Hurricane Otis slammed into the vacation area Wednesday as a record-breaking Category 5 storm. Officials and military aid finally arrived in the city after their travel was hindered by the same damage they came to help with and assess. The Mexican president says not a single power pole was left standing.

A reminder that Sunday is the annual Family Monster Bash at the Capital News Centre in Kelowna. It goes from 1-4 and is free but organizers ask people to take a donation for the Central Okanagan Food Bank. There’ll be an obstacle course, bouncy house, Zorb soccer, face painting, Halloween-themed games, free skating and more.

Two people have been arrested after Vancouver police raided the offices of the Drug User Liberation Front, but charges are pending as an investigation continues. The activist group has publicly admitted to trafficking heroin, cocaine, and meth. It says it runs a “compassion club” for distributing drugs.

Big booze companies are making non-alcoholic versions of their classic drinks as the market grows. Surveys in Canada and the U-S show consumers, especially younger ones, are increasingly cutting back on alcohol consumption. A director of marketing says the ‘sober curious’ group is growing, and the pandemic seems to have accelerated the shift, with more consumers looking for healthier options.

Okanagan College students, donors, leaders, staff and community members watched the launch of the ‘Thrive Here’ campaign yesterday to build a new recreation and wellness centre on the Kelowna campus. It will include a gymnasium, walking track and fitness suite. The $14 million facility got a $5 million dollar kickstart from philanthropist Don Folk.

After three years of work to expand the Trans-Canada highway east of Golden through Kicking Horse Canyon, the project is nearing completion. Construction has seen five kilometres of narrow, two-lane highway expanded, and work is ongoing to transition traffic onto the new highway and bridges by the beginning of December. There will be limited construction delays, including nighttime closures, through November.

Sixty years after Beatlemania began and with two of the quartet now dead, artificial intelligence has enabled the release next week of what is promised to be the last “new” Beatles song. The track, called “Now And Then,” will be available Thursday as part of a single paired with “Love Me Do,” the very first Beatles single that came out in 1962. Paul McCartney says to still be working on Beatles music in 2023 and about to release a new song the public haven’t heard is quite an exciting thing.

It’s a two-game weekend south of the border for the Kelowna Rockets. They are in Spokane tonight and Wenatchee tomorrow. Pregame show on 1047 the Lizard begins at 6:35 with the play-by-play just after 7.

The Vancouver Canucks are back home as the St Louis Blues visit Rogers Arena tonight at 7.

The World Series gets underway at 5. It begins in Arlington with the Texas Rangers hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Okanagan Sun go for the BCFC Cullen Cup tomorrow against the Westshore Rebels in Victoria.

Ottawa Senators forward Shane Pinto has been suspended 41 games for violating the NHL’s gambling policy. The 22-year-old is the first modern-day NHL player to be suspended for sports wagering.
