There will be another 2 hour closure of Highway 97 north of Summerland today. The Highways Ministry says more rock blasting is required and as a result the road will be closed between 11 and 1. There will be more closures throughout November and the highway will remain single lane in each direction at the slide area through the winter.

Kelowna is expected to see an economic spinoff of up to 15 million dollars when it hosts the Montana’s Brier in 2025. The ten-day national men’s curling championship will be held at Prospera Place. Kelowna was set to host the Brier two years ago when the pandemic hit, forcing officials to move it to the bubble in Calgary.

Nearly three dozen trucks entered Gaza yesterday in the largest aid convoy since the war between Israel and Hamas began. But humanitarian workers said the assistance still fell desperately short of needs after thousands of people broke into warehouses to take flour and basic hygiene products. Communications were restored to much of Gaza after an Israeli bombardment described by residents as the most intense of the war knocked out most contact late Friday.

BC’s police watchdog is asking the Crown to consider charges against three RCMP officers in the shooting death of a man more than 2 years ago. The Independent Investigations Office has submitted a report to the prosecution service related to the July 2021 incident in Campbell River. It says an interaction took place between a man and police at the drive-through window of a local business, during which police fired shots and the driver of the vehicle was killed.

Government workers and volunteers were clearing streets as gas station lines wrapped around the block in Acapulco. On the weekend, a more organized relief operation started to take shape in the wake of hurricane Otis. The Category 5 storm’s destruction had cut off the city of nearly one-million and Mexican authorities raised the death toll to 43 yesterday.

A few tips from the RCMP for Halloween tomorrow night. For trick or treaters, it’s best to go out with a group or an adult, be visible and only go to homes that are well lit. For drivers, slow down and be careful backing up or leaving driveways. And for homeowners, if you are welcoming trick or treaters make sure your front door area is well lit and the rest of your home is secured.

Small businesses in BC will be able to apply for funding to help recover costs from vandalism, and for vandalism prevention starting November 22. They will be able to apply for as much as $2,000 per business for the cost of repairs due to vandalism, and up to $1,000 for prevention measures. The funding will be retroactive to Jan. 1 this year.

“Friends” star Matthew Perry was found dead at his Los Angeles home on Saturday… the victim of an apparent drowning. He was 54. Tributes poured in for the Ottawa-raised actor from people such as Prime Minister Trudeau who went to the same school as Perry, and the Ottawa Senators, who’s games he was at quite often… sometimes wearing a Blue Jays hat.

The World Series moves to Phoenix tonight for game 3. The Diamondbacks and Rangers split the first two games in Texas.

Joe Thornton has confirmed his retirement from the NHL after sitting out all of last season and remaining unsigned this year. He last played for the Florida Panthers as part of a 24 year career where he recorded 1,539 points in 1,714 games
