Top Stories – Nov 7 – Another 97 Closure
Once again Highway 97 just north of Summerland will be closed for 2 hours today. Between and 11 and 1, crews will be doing additional blasting at the site of this summer’s rock slide. We’re told there will be more closures throughout the month and then it will be single lane traffic in each direction through the winter.
A boat and trailer that were stolen from a property in the upper Mission early yesterday morning were spotted on Casorso later on still being towed by the white pickup that did the initial theft. The driver and passenger stayed in the vehicle when pulled over and were arrested, and a third person that ran was picked up shortly after. All three have had previous experience with the court system. Police also recovered drugs and a firearm.
The Israeli army has cut northern Gaza off from the rest of the territory and is pounding it with airstrikes ahead of ground forces pushing into Gaza City. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry is reporting the Palestinian death toll has already surpassed 10-thousand people, making it the deadliest conflict since Israel was established 75 years ago.
Highway 3 is still closed by a rock slide between Keremeos and Hedley. The local Regional District issued an evacuation order for some residents sandwiched between the highway and the Similkameen River. The Province is launching its anti-vaping campaign in schools to help young people learn about the bad effects of vaping and make educated decisions. Vaping products contain nicotine and numerous chemicals, such as formaldehyde, and new chemicals may be created when the e-liquid is heated. When inhaled, the substances can irritate and cause damage to the lungs.
Global Affairs Canada says Canadians who have been waiting to leave Gaza amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas were told they can start entering Egypt at the Rafah crossing today. The word comes as concerns mount over Canadians waiting to leave the enclave after Israel said its military has encircled Gaza City.
The Kelowna Chamber of Commerce says it’s 2023 Business Leader of the year is Sam Samaddar. The CEO of Kelowna International Airport will be formally recognized at a Gala event next Friday. He was chosen by a panel of judges made up of community leaders.
A Canadian woman who was jailed in Nazi Germany for helping Allied aircrews escape the occupied Netherlands is being honoured with a Remembrance Day stamp. Mona Parsons was living in the Netherlands with her Dutch husband in 1940 when the couple started helping the Dutch resistance by hiding Allied airmen whose planes had been shot down.
Ukraine launched a criminal investigation into military officers who organized a troop-honoring ceremony that was hit by a Russian missile strike. Nineteen soldiers were killed in one of the deadliest single attacks reported by Ukrainian forces. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the incident was a ‘tragedy that could’ve been avoided.’

The Kelowna Rockets begin a four game road trip tonight. They are in Tri-Cities to take on the Americans at 7:05. That means a pregame show at 6:35 on 1047 the Lizard.
Vancouver defenseman Quinn Hughes was named the NHL first star of the week. He led the league with seven assists and eight points in three games.
At Rogers Arena last night, Quinn Hughes had a 4 point game and Vancouver stayed in 2nd place in the Western Pacific division with a 6-2 win over Edmonton.
The Blue Jays exercised a club option on reliever Chad Green that guarantees the right-hander $21 million for 2024 and 2025. The 32-year-old returned Sept. 1 following Tommy John surgery.
