Fatal crash on Connector

One person died in a crash between a semi and a pickup truck on the Okanagan Connector Tuesday night (Jan. 23).

RCMP in Merritt say around 7:30 p.m., the semi slid off the road and into a ditch near Hamilton Hill and was hit by the pickup truck which was also travelling east bound.

“Tragically, the passenger in the pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the semi-truck is uninjured and is cooperating with the investigation,” Cpl. Melissa Jongema from the BC Highway Patrol said.

No details regarding the occupants of the vehicles are being released at this time.

Police say the road conditions were very poor at the time as they continue to investigate.

Merritt RCMP are asking for anyone who may have witnessed this collision or the events leading up to it to contact them at 250-378-4262 and refer to file number 2024-299.
