Doctor goes on trial for sexual assault

Feb 26, 2024 | 10:30 AM Pete McIntyre

The trial of a Vernon doctor accused of sexual assault is scheduled to get underway today (Feb. 26) in provincial court.

Dr. Peter Inkpen is facing a total of six charges after accusations from several different people, and this is the first of a possible three trials.

Police began an investigation when a female victim reported she had been sexually assaulted by her physician which eventually led to Inkpen’s arrest in July 2022.

Due to the accused’s profession, Mounites put out an appeal for any other potential victims to come forward, and that led to four more charges being laid in January 2024.

Inkpen, 43, was a pain management specialist at the time.

Publication bans are in place to protect the identities of the victims.

The trial is scheduled to last all this week.
