An incident in Vernon’s north end Friday evening caught people’s attention.

A small vehicle ended up perched on some support wires for a power pole on 48th Avenue.

A witness told Vernon Matters it was the end result of a two-vehicle collision after a female driver was turning left across traffic onto 48th Ave. and collided with the front end of another vehicle around 6 p.m. on March 15.

The other car sustained minor front end damage.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP say the vehicle in the photo was westbound on 48th Avenue and turned in front of an eastbound vehicle.

“Unfortunately, the westbound driver misjudged the distance of the oncoming vehicle, resulting in the driver accelerating in the turn to prevent a collision. As a result, the vehicle collided with the curb and drove onto he support wires of the hydro pole,” Cpl. Tania Finn, media relations officer, told Vernon Matters.

BC Hydro worked with a tow company to safely remove the vehicle.

Finn said no injuries were reported and the westbound driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield on left turn.
