Snowfall warnings issued for area highways

Snow is expected to fall on two nearby highways.

Environment Canada issued snowfall warnings for the Coquihalla between Merritt and Hope and the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass Monday, April 8.

The forecast for the Coquihalla calls precipitation starting as rain in the afternoon and turning to snow in the evening and overnight.

In total, approximately 15 centimetres of heavy, wet snow is forecast to fall near the summit by noon Tuesday, April 9.

On the Trans-Canada, heavy snow is expected to start to fall Monday night and continue through Tuesday, with between 15 and 20 centimetres accumulating over that period of time.

The weather agency warns that these snow events could reduce visibility and cause difficult travel conditions, and advises people slow down, drive cautiously and to conditions, give other road users extra space, and allow for additional travel time.

People are also encouraged to view road conditions at DriveBC and plan their trips to accomodate for the incoming snow.
