Second straight day of record heat in Okanagan
Environment Canada said 27 high temperature records either fell or were tied in B.C. on Monday (July 8).
That included a new daily high for Vernon at 37.5 degrees Celsius, breaking the old mark of 36.2 set in 2015.
The mercury in Kelowna reached 37.8, eclipsing the previous high of 36.5 also set in 2015.
It was the second day of record heat in the Okanagan.
The Lytton area was a hot spot in B.C., smashing a record dating back to 1952 when it hit 42.4 degrees.
The weather agency says it will stay hot for the rest of the week in much of the southern Interior with highs in the mid 30’s for the Okanagan.
Heat warnings remain in effect for much of central and southern B,C., most of Alberta and major sections of Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada has also issued heat warnings for parts of Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador and the three Maritime provinces.
