Wildfire sparked near Okanagan Connector
A wildfire ignited in a forested area northwest of West Kelowna on Thursday.
The B.C. Wildfire Service told Vernon Matters the fire was discovered at approximately 5:22 p.m. on August 15.
The fire was located near Trepanier Park, north of the Brenda Mines turnoff from the Okanagan Connector.
The BCWS said two initial attack crews, with assistance from a bucketing helicopter, were assigned to the fire Thursday evening and worked at the scene until about 1 a.m.
As of 10:15 a.m. Friday the BCWS had one initial attack crew, consisting of four or five members, assigned to the fire.
The fire was classified as Out of Control and estimated at 1.3 hectares as of Friday morning. It was suspected of being caused by lightning.
The BCWS added there were no structures or infrastructure at risk from the fire.
