A suspect in an alleged home invasion and assault with a weapon has been apprehended.

Kelowna RCMP said officers responded to a home in the 1300-block of Kelglen Crescent at around 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, for a report of a home invasion.

Upon arriving at the scene, police said they found a 28-year old woman who was allegedly stabbed several times by an unknown female suspect who fled the scene after being confronted by other occupants of the house.

The victim was treated at the scene then taken to hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, though police said Monday that she was in stable condition and remained in hospital.

The RCMP said at 3 p.m. Saturday officers located the female matching the description of the suspect on Richter Street near Clement Avenue, and she was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect, 24-year old Morgan Marie Smith, was charged with aggravated assault, and remained in custody until her court appearance Tuesday, Sept. 10.

“The victim and her family are receiving the necessary support services as she recovers from her injuries,” Cpl. Michael Gauthier, Media Relations Officer Kelowna RCMP, said.

“We applaud both our officers and medical personnel for their life-saving work. Our investigators continue to work tirelessly to prepare the necessary information for court tomorrow.”
