The non-partisan agency that oversees provincial elections has more mail-in ballots to count than previously estimated.

Elections BC said it estimates there to be 65,000 mail-in ballots in the provincial general election, up from the initial estimate of 49,000.

The agency stated it was updating the count as the screening process required to verify the ballots was nearing completion.

Mail-in ballots were being accepted until polls closed at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, and screened in the days that followed.

Mail-in ballots will be counted Saturday and Sunday, and recounts will also go Sunday.

Elections BC will provide updates and the final results of the provincial election Monday morning.
