A section of the Rail Trail in the city’s North End, closed since March 2025, is set to reopen this spring.

The City of Kelowna says reopening the corridor will require adjustments to its Temporary Outdoor Sheltering site on Weddell Place so the trail can be fully restored for walkers and cyclists.

Preparatory work is already underway, including groundwork and fencing installation along the corridor.

A second designated 24-hour sheltering area for people transitioning indoors will also move further east along the Rail Trail, with updated fencing aimed at improving privacy for those sheltering and safety for trail users. The City says the redesign is intended to balance public access to active transportation routes with ongoing support services in the area.

Once complete, the Rail Trail will be fully accessible from Gordon Drive through to the waterfront.
