Winter driving has arrived at higher elevations, with the season’s first significant snowfall creating hazardous conditions on mountain highways Wednesday morning.
A semi-truck rollover on Highway 97C near the Highway 5A junction disrupted traffic, while snow and slippery sections were reported on the Okanagan Connector and Coquihalla.
The conditions serve as a reminder for drivers heading toward the Lower Mainland or travelling through the Interior to prepare for changing weather at higher elevations.
Winter tires are required on most designated B.C. highways from Oct. 1 to April 30. Drivers should check their tires’ tread and pressure, slow down, leave extra space for braking and allow more time to reach their destination.
Motorists are also encouraged to carry an emergency kit with warm clothing, blankets, water and food, and check DriveBC for road conditions before setting out.
