Interior Health now home to 2,014 active COVID-19 cases
Another 271 COVID-19 cases were recorded in the Interior Health (IH) region Thursday, bringing the active case count up to 2,014.
The new cases were part of 724 recorded in British Columbia, and there are now 5,640 active cases in the province.
Two more COVID-linked deaths were recorded, both in the IH, and the provincial death toll is now 1,804.
Hospitalizations also rose Thursday to 149, with 83 of those in intensive care.
The active outbreak sites remained at 14, 11 of which are in the IH as no new sites were identified on Thursday.
Those sites in the Interior consist of:
- Kelowna’s Village at Mill Creek – second floor: Two residents, one staff
- Kelowna’s Cottonwoods Care Centre: 19 residents, 11 staff, three deaths
- Kelowna’s Spring Valley Care Centre: Three residents, one staff
- Kelowna’s Hawthorn Park: One resident, four staff
- Kelowna’s David Lloyd Jones: 38 residents, 12 staff, five deaths
- Kelowna’s Sun Pointe Village: Five residents
- West Kelowna’s Brookhaven Care Centre: 10 residents, 20 staff, two deaths
- Nelson Jubilee Manor: Two residents, two staff, two deaths
- Cranbrook’s Kootenay Street Village: One resident, two staff
- Merritt’s Nicola Meadows: Four residents, three staff, one death
- Grand Forks’ Hardy View Lodge: One resident, one staff
In the meantime, the provincial first dose vaccination rate for British Columbians aged 12 and over increased to 83.7 per cent Thursday while the second dose rate rose to 75.6 per cent.
The province also reports that the cases recorded between Aug. 18 and 24 consisted of 70.9 per cent of the unvaccinated (3,131 cases), 11.5 per cent partially vaccinated (509) and 17.5 per cent fully vaccinated (773).
Between Aug. 11 and 24, there had been 199 COVID hospitalizations. Of those cases, 157 or 78.9 per cent were non-vaccinated individuals, 15 partially vaccinated individuals made up 7.5 per cent of hospitalizations, and 27 fully vaccinated people made up 13.6 per cent of cases that ended up in hospital.
