Campfire ban for the Kamloops Fire Centre to be lifted

Campfires will once again be permitted in the Okanagan and the Kamloops Fire Centre.
The B.C. Wildfire Service said, as a result of favourable weather over the past week and cooler conditions in the forecast, Category 1 campfires will be permitted throughout the region effective 12 p.m. Friday, June 16.
Category 2 and 3 open burning will remain prohibited, as will the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, binary exploding targets, air curtain burners and burn barrels or cages.
The campfire ban in the KFC was put in place June 8.
Though the regional campfire ban is being rescinded, the municipal bans remain in place.
Vernon, Coldstream, the Regional District of North Okanagan, Armstrong and Spallumcheen have all issued their own campfire bans.
The BCWS reminds the public wildfires and fires in contravention of current orders can be reported by calling 1-800-663-5555 or by dialing *5555 on a cell phone.
