KF Aerospace is opening its hangar doors for a Career Fair and Open House today from 3:30-6:30. It will give an inside look at a variety of career opportunities with KF’s aviation services. The event at YLW will showcase positions in the skilled trades, as well as administration, supply chain, logistics and aerospace engineering.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue was called out yesterday afternoon to retrieve a stranded hiker and his dog below the second lookout in Bear Creek Provincial Park. Both were safely retrieved from the steep slope just above a cliff by a high angle rope team. There were no injuries.

Half of Prime Minister Trudeau’s new cabinet members are women, and he has appointed seven rookie ministers. Two-thirds of portfolios switched hands in a shuffle that signals the government will focus on housing and affordability heading into the next election.

Searches continued yesterday for a man who went missing from a fishing boat in Okanagan Lake, and a kayaker in Kalamalka Lake. The kayak was found. Both vanished during the storm on Monday night that led to very big waves on both lakes. The RCMP is leading the searches with both Central Okanagan and Vernon Search and Rescue on standby.

The RCMP called off the search for a man who went missing while tubing down a Nova Scotia river during flood runoff on Monday. But the search continued yesterday for a young person missing since a vehicle was submerged in floodwaters on Saturday. Police have recovered the bodies of three other people, including two children.

Higher food prices for consumers and bigger profits for Loblaw. The parent of chains such as Superstore and Shoppers Drug Mart says net income for the last quarter was up 31% as profit reached 508 Million dollars. The company says discount stores such as No Frills led the charge as shoppers look for lower prices.

It’s a big day for kids in West Kelowna on Monday. That’s when the city’s first fully accessible and inclusive playground, opens at Westbank Town Centre Park on May Street. ‘Julia’s Junction’, was inspired by Julia Grassmick, who was paralyzed by a blood clot when she was 17 months old. The playground is designed to accommodate all abilities and disabilities.

Small businesses in BC will soon have access to new funding to support increased costs due to crime and vandalism, and to prevent further crime. Starting this fall, they will be able to apply for as much as $2,000 per business for the cost of repairs due to vandalism, and up to $1,000 for vandalism. It will be retroactive to January 1st.

A group that ranks the climate efforts of the world’s major banks says Canada’s Big Six aren’t showing any urgency on the issue. Investors for Paris Compliance says the banks have made little progress since its initial assessment last year. It says all six are still financing fossil fuel expansion projects with no policies against the practice.

In Nanaimo last night the Kelowna Falcons lost their 2nd straight game to the Nightowls – this time by a score of 6-4.

Kailus Green of the West Kelowna Warriors was named one of the recipients of the BC Hockey League’s Kyle Turris Community Award. The league says Green enjoyed attending community events and interacting with the public and is excellent with kids at schools and at home games.

Canada now has a win and a tie at the Women’s World Cup down under. After beating Ireland yesterday, they now get ready for a game in Melbourne on Monday against Australia.

Carolina Panthers coach Frank Reich wasted no time naming rookie Bryce Young the team’s starting quarterback for the regular-season opener against Atlanta. Andy Dalton had signed a two-year contract with the Panthers before the draft.
