BC United MLA defects to provincial Conservatives
A member of the BC United caucus has crossed the floor to join the Conservative Party of B.C.
Bruce Banman, the MLA for Abbotsford South, said in a statement the Conservatives are the only party that stands for what’s right in the legislature, rather than what’s politically convenient or politically correct.
Banman, who is a former mayor of Abbotsford, is in his first term as the MLA for Abbotsford South.
With two members in the legislature (Banman and leader John Rustad), the Conservatives are now recognized as an official party and are eligible for increased funding and official party status privileges.
BC United Leader Kevin Falcon said Banman’s move is not entirely unexpected but it betrays his constituents who elected him to serve as part of the BC United team.
