Kelowna RCMP are asking for help in locating a mint condition 1958 truck that was stolen from a parking lot on St. Paul Street overnight on Monday. They believe the orange-coloured half-ton pickup (above) was loaded onto a flatbed tilt trailer. Anyone who might have seen something is asked to call the police or Crime Stoppers.

Canfor says hired contractors on their way to conduct field survey work for the company were on board a helicopter that crashed outside Prince George on Tuesday, killing two and injuring four. Michelle Ward, Canfor’s vice-president of corporate communications, says the company is “deeply saddened” by the crash but would not reveal the contracting firm nor the helicopter’s owner. The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

The federal government says its new voluntary code of conduct for generative A-I aligns with six key principles that include equity, transparency and human oversight. Innovation Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne announced the code at the ‘All In’ artificial intelligence conference in Montreal. Canadian firms, including OpenText are pledging to sign on to the code.

The final Coffee with a Cop for September is this morning in Rutland. Five RCMP officers will be at Model Bean Cafe on Asher Road from 830-10. The idea is to be in a relaxed atmosphere to discuss policing concerns. They’re buying, but if you are not a coffee fan, no worries because purchase is not necessary.

Canadian Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge is urging the United States to stand strong with Canada over regulating tech giants in order to protect the news industry. She says Canada, the U.S. and other G7 nations, need to stand strong to protect democracies from companies like Meta that are making major decisions that shape citizens’ online environments. She says Meta, which recently removed news from its platforms here, is using Canada as an example to send a message to the world.

Canadian cannabis companies are cheering a U-S Senate committee’s decision to push forward with easing federal financing restrictions on the industry. The bill is the latest version of a long-standing effort to make it easier for cannabis companies that operate legally under state laws to access federally regulated financial services.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau apologized for Parliament’s recognition of a man who fought alongside the Nazis in the Second World War. It happened last week during an address to Parliament by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, sparking outrage at home and abroad. Liberal House Speaker Anthony Rota has accepted responsibility for inviting 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka to Parliament and has resigned.

Meantime, members of Parliament are set to elect a new Speaker next week, following the resignation of Rota. Until then, Bloc Quebecois MP Louis Plamondon – the longest-serving member of Parliament, will be the interim Speaker and preside over the election.

Disney Plus is joining the crackdown on password sharing as it introduces a new ad-supported tier November 1st. The company started emailing subscribers this week to signal changes to its streaming platform’s user agreement. The terms say account holders may not share their subscription outside their household.

In Edmonton last night, Connor McDavid scored 55 seconds into overtime to give the Oilers a 2-1 win over the Canucks. Vancouver makes the trip to Seattle for a 7:00 preseason game against the Kraken tonight.

Goaltender Roberto Luongo will become the eighth inductee to the Vancouver Canucks’ Ring of Honour. He spent seven-plus seasons with the team and will be honoured on Dec. 14 when the Florida Panthers visit the Canucks. Luongo is currently a special advisor to the Panthers’ general manager.

The Toronto Blue Jays had just two hits last night as they posted their second straight loss to the New York Yankees. This time it was 6-0 for the 11th shutout this season where Toronto leads Major League Baseball. Game three goes today just after 4.

The Thursday Night NFL game has a couple of 2 & 1 teams going at it as Detroit visits Green Bay.
