Police in the Central Okanagan have arrested a man in connection with a series of suspicious fires.

Summerland RCMP say 49-year-old Gerrid Perret of Penticton has been arrested following an investigation of surveillance videos and photographs.

Police say the first fire happened on Saturday at St. Stephens Church, where a suspect broke in and a blaze was started in the basement.

That was followed by another fire on Sunday in an exterior stairwell at Summerland Secondary School.

Perret has been charged with break and enter, mischief, and failing to comply with his probation order.
