Mounties seized a large quantity of drugs, guns and cash as a result of what should have been a routine traffic stop in Kelowna.

On May 24, a member of the Kelowna RCMP Strike Force stopped a vehicle being driven by a man known to police with a history in the drug trade.

RCMP say the officer spotted suspected illicit drugs within the vehicle, and arrested the driver. Upon searching the vehicle, a large quantity of illicit drugs were found, leading to a search warrant being issued for the driver’s home.

The RCMP said that while executing a search of the man’s home, the officers uncovered thousands of potentially toxic drug doses, weapons and cash.

Police seized from the vehicle and the home:

  • Over $43,000 in Canadian cash
  • 1.2 kg of suspected cocaine
  • 799 g of suspected fentanyl
  • 113 g of suspected methamphetamine
  • Over 600 suspected prescription pills
  • A .40 calibre handgun
  • A .22 calibre handgun with a suppressor

“Our team is working relentlessly to maintain public safety and to take toxic drugs and weapons off our streets,” Cpl. Nick Brodeur of the Kelowna RCMP Strike Force stated.

The suspect was released from custody as police prepare a report to support charges.

RCMP said this remains an open investigation, and asked anyone with information related to this case, or any other local drug trade or gang activities, to contact the detachment at 250-762-3300 or file an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-8477.
