The lure of an ice cream sundae was too much to pass up for a break and enter suspect.

RCMP say on on Sunday, June 2, at around 4 a.m., officers from the Kelowna detachment responded to a business alarm in the 500 block of Highway 33 West in the Rutland area.

Upon arrival, police confirmed a break and enter in progress and arrested a suspect inside the store.

“When the police officer arrived, he witnessed the suspect making a chocolate sundae behind the counter,” Sergeant Judith Bertrand, media liaison officer for the Kelowna Regional RCMP, said.

The suspect was ‘scooped-up’ and taken into custody without incident.

Bertrand said it appears the suspect broke the front door of the business to gain entry, attempted to steal items from a locked fridge before making the ice cream treat.

The sergeant said there was significant damage to the store and the suspect will face charges.
