The Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) were called to the scene of a car crash this morning (Sept. 21) to help locate the driver who had gone missing.

The RCMP called in the COSAR at 4:05 a.m. to the scene near Bear Creek, where a late model Honda had apparently failed to negotiate a turn and ended up down a 75 m embankment.

The driver had used Siri to call 911, but Siri called her emergency contact instead, who then called the police.

Ten COSAR members, including the dog team, joined the RCMP dog team and helicopter in the search for the missing driver.

After about five hours, the woman was found on the opposite side of the road from where her car was located.

COSAR said the driver had suffered minor injuries and was disoriented. She was treated at the scene before being handed over to the B.C. Ambulance Service.

The call Tuesday morning was the 81st for COSAR in 2021. The most calls that COSAR has responded to in a single year was 84, which was recorded in 2020.
