Apartment fire in Kelowna contained to one unit, one person injured

Quick actions by local firefighters stopped a fire from spreading throughout an apartment building.

Kelowna Fire Department responded to reports of heavy smoke coming from an apartment building in the 500 block of Rowcliffe Avenue around 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and found the smoke coming from a third floor unit, then entered the building and extinguished the blaze.

The fire was contained to the single unit, though suites on the floor below was damaged by water.

The third floor was also filled with smoke, and fire crews ventilated the building.

One person suffered undisclosed injuries and was taken to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment.

Emergency Social Services was assisting the residents displaced by the fire and water damage, though the majority of the building’s residents were able to return to their homes.
