Kelowna man charged after alleged carjacking ends in Vernon arrest
Kelowna RCMP say a man is facing multiple charges after an alleged carjacking earlier this month led to a dangerous drive and an arrest in Vernon.
Police say officers were called around 11:23 a.m. on Feb. 12 to a report of an assault and vehicle theft near Ambrosi Road and Agassiz Road. Investigators say the complainant and the suspect were acquaintances and had argued before the incident. The suspect is alleged to have assaulted the complainant and fled in the complainant vehicle.
RCMP say officers tracked the vehicle as it travelled north through the Glenmore Valley toward Vernon, receiving multiple reports of erratic driving and at least two collisions. The suspect was eventually arrested at a Vernon gas station.
James Wilkinson appeared in court on Feb. 13, where charges of robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to stop after an accident were approved.
He remains in police custody.
