The City of Kelowna is investing tens of millions of dollars into Rutland, the city’s largest neighbourhood and one of its five designated urban centres.

According to a recent staff report, $78.5 million is being spent on community projects, including a new all-ages activity centre next to Lions Park, and upgrades at Rutland Recreation Park. Planned improvements include a year-round artificial turf field and new spaces designed for community gatherings.

The city is also moving ahead with major transportation upgrades.

A $2.6 million expansion of the Rutland Transit Exchange will add capacity and improve access, while 15 new bus stops are being installed across the neighbourhood. In addition, a $35 million upgrade to Hollywood Road North will improve connections between Rutland and other parts of Kelowna.

Safety and infrastructure projects are also included in the investment.

The city is allocating about $800,000 for traffic calming measures and crosswalk improvements, along with funding for new roundabouts and watermain upgrades aimed at improving road safety and essential services.
