Kelowna Rockets forward Shane Smith has been named the recipient of the 2026 Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy.

The award is handed out annually to the Western Hockey League humanitarian of the year.

The WHL announced the honour Tuesday, recognizing Smith for his combined performance on the ice and contributions in the community during the 2025-26 season.

Off the ice, Smith supported local initiatives through school visits and community events, and pledged to donate $25 for every point he scored to the Canadian CMV Foundation in honour of his niece, who was diagnosed with congenital cytomegalovirus at birth. He raised a total of $1,800 through the initiative while also helping raise awareness of the condition.

Acquired mid-season from the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Smith recorded 33 goals and 35 assists for 68 points over 61 regular-season games with the Rockets.

Smith has previously been recognized as a finalist for the award in each of the past two seasons.
