Interior Health records 208 new cases Wednesday

The Interior is home to 1,281 active COVID-19 cases, as 208 were recorded in the region Wednesday. The new cases came following the completion of 2,841 tests, meaning the positivity rate for the region was 7.3 per cent Wednesday.

The new cases were part of 813 recorded across B.C., bringing the province’s active case count up to 6,185. The provincial positivity rate Wednesday was 4.9 per cent following the completion of 16,525 tests.

Between Sept. 21 and 27, a total of 5,121 new cases were confirmed in B.C. Of those, 3,324, or 64.9 per cent, were unvaccinated individuals, 361, or seven per cent, were partially vaccinated, and 1,436, or 28 per cent, were fully vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health reports that 11 British Columbians died due to COVID-19 Wednesday, bringing the provincial death toll up to 1,953. None of the new deaths were recorded in the Interior.

The hospitalizations due to COVID-19 complications also rose to 340 Wednesday, and 146 of those patients are in Intensive care. In the Interior, there are 45 people in hospital with COVID-19, all of whom are in intensive care.

The province notes that there were 438 COVID-19 hospitalizations between Sept. 14 and 27. Of those patients, 318, or 72.6 per cent, were unvaccinated , 36, or 8.2 per cent, were partially vaccinated, and the remaining 84, or 19.2 per cent, were fully immunized with both doses.

The provincial first dose vaccination rate for those age 12 and over rose to 87.9 per cent (4,074,112 individuals) Wednesday, and 80.8 per cent (3,745,475) of eligible British Columbians are now fully immunized with both shots.

The provincial active health-care facility outbreak list 22, and eight of those sites are located in the Interior after the Village at Mill Creek and Hillside Village outbreaks were declared over Wednesday.

  • Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 46 cases: 35 residents and 11 staff, with six deaths connected to the outbreak.
  • Hardy View Lodge long-term care in Grand Forks has six cases: one resident and five staff.
  • Kamloops Seniors Village long-term care has 19 cases: 10 residents and nine staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
  • The Hamlets at Westsyde long-term care in Kamloops has six cases: three residents and three staff.
  • Joseph Creek Village long-term care in Cranbrook has 15 cases: nine residents and six staff, with two deaths connected to the outbreak.
  • Overlander Long-Term Care in Kamloops has 20 cases: 15 residents and five staff.
  • Village by the Station long-term care in Penticton has 10 cases: eight residents and two staff.
  • Royal Inland Hospital unit 6N in Kamloops has two patient cases.
