Kelowna is making a final push on its busiest infrastructure program yet, with more than $154 million being invested in roads, utilities and parks this year.
The city says its 2026 program includes more than 135 projects, many of which are now complete or well underway as crews take advantage of the remaining fall construction season.
Major transportation work includes the Hollywood Road extension, which will create a new 2.1-kilometre connection between John Hindle Drive and Sexsmith Road. The project is intended to improve connections to the airport, UBC Okanagan and the city’s growing northern employment and commercial areas. Construction began this fall, with completion expected in 2028.
Work is also continuing on water infrastructure. The Weddell-Clement transmission main project is part of a broader effort to strengthen Kelowna’s water network, improve the movement of drinking water between service areas and help accommodate future growth.
At the waterfront, planned improvements include a new swimming venue at City Park, along with upgrades to Sails Plaza and Kerry Park. The proposed swim facility is designed to accommodate lap swimming, water polo and other aquatic activities, while improving access to the lake.
The city says construction activity typically increases in early fall as crews work to finish paving, concrete, landscaping and other projects that depend on suitable weather.
Infrastructure spending is being supported through development cost charges, grants and planned capital investments.
