B.C.’s police watchdog has concluded its investigation into a West Kelowna woman who was injured during an arrest in September.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. says the woman was arrested for mischief on Sept. 8 after RCMP officers responded to a report of an apparently intoxicated woman causing a disturbance at a business in the 3700-block of Boucherie Road.

An interaction occurred between the woman and police while she was being detained, and she suffered injuries.

She was taken to the RCMP detachment and released from custody before going to hospital for assessment and treatment.

The woman reported the incident to the IIO on Sept. 13, prompting an investigation.

After reviewing evidence, including police body-camera footage, medical records, police reports and photographs, the IIO’s chief civilian director determined the injuries did not meet the threshold of serious harm under the Police Act.
