Five COVID-19 deaths in Interior amid drop in new cases
Five more residents of Interior Health (IH) died from COVID-19 related issues as part of nine deaths around the province announced on Thursday.
It raises the province’s death toll from the virus to 2,042.
New case numbers were down, both provincially and in the local health region.
B.C. reported 580 new infections (down from 605 on Wednesday), with 104 new cases in Interior Health (119).
Active cases in IH were at 831, down 19 from the previous day, while in B.C., there were 5,348 people actively battling COVID (up 176) with 378 (up by 4) in hospital and 153 in intensive care (same).
The new/active cases include:
- 246 new cases in Fraser Health with 2,449 active cases
- 53 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health with 708 active cases
- 104 new cases in Interior Health with 831 active cases
- 129 new cases in Northern Health with 677 active cases
- 48 new cases in Island Health with 625 active cases
As of Oct. 14, 89.0 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.9 per cent have had two jabs.
There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks, for a total of 19 active outbreaks.
Update on Interior Health outbreaks:
- ยท Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 64 cases: 50 residents and 14 staff, with 12 deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Joseph Creek Village long-term care in Cranbrook has 15 cases: nine residents and six staff, with two deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Overlander Long-Term Care in Kamloops has 28 cases: 21 residents and seven staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Village by the Station long-term care in Penticton has 33 cases: 19 residents and 14 staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Haven Hill Care Centre long-term care in Penticton has nine cases: seven residents and two staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
