Smoke was billowing from the front of a West Kelowna industrial business when fire crews arrived today.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded around 1:30 p.m.to the blaze at Kelowna Electroplating on Ross Road.

Assistant fire chief Brent Watson said crews entered the smoky building through an open garage door, and found a fire in a metal shavings hopper.

“Employees had slowed the fire with an extinguisher before safely evacuating the building, and West Kelowna crews were able to quickly finish the job with a single hose line,” Watson explained.

Crews stayed on the scene to ventilate the building and remove the heavy smoke that accumulated inside.

“There were no injuries and the fire is not suspicious,” Watson commented.

RCMP, BC Ambulance, BC Hydro and Fortis BC also responded to the site.
