Two Rockets and one Blazer named to U-17 roster for Capital City Challenge
Two players from the Kelowna Rockets and one from the Kamloops Blazers are going to take part in the 2021 Capital City Challenge.
The WHL announced Friday that forward Andrew Cristall and defenceman Caden Price of the Kelowna Rockets, as well as defenceman Kaden Hammel, will be part of the event.
These three players are part of a group of 20 WHL players joining the squad. A total of 66 players from across Canada will take part.
The players will be divided into three teams: Canada Black, Canada Red and Canada White, and will then take part in a four team tournament featuring the three U-17 teams and Canada’s National Women’s Team.
“We are excited to unveil the 66 players that will suit up for our three men’s under-17 teams at the Capital City Challenge and have the unique opportunity to compete against Canada’s National Women’s Team in Ottawa,” said Hockey Canada senior vice-president of hockey operations Scott Salmond.
“Although this has not been a traditional year for our Program of Excellence and the under-17 group, we are excited to introduce these athletes to an event that replicates short-term, international competition.”
The 2021 Capital City Challenge will be held in Ottawa from November 26 to December 1.
