1,478 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. over weekend, 321 in Interior

The weekend COVID-19 case count in British Columbia totalled 1,438 new infections, or an average of 479 per day.

That broke down to 553 new cases on Saturday, 462 on Sunday and 423 today.

Interior Health had 321 new cases over the three days, and now has 683 active cases (down 3 from Friday).

There are 4,282 active cases in the province, with 407 people in hospital and 121 in intensive care.

Seventeen more people died of COVID-related issues, raising the province’s death toll to 2.218. One of the deaths was in IH, with six in Northern Health, five in Fraser Health, three in Island Health and two in Vancouver Coastal Health.

There have been three new health-care facility outbreaks at Burnaby Hospital, Maplewood House and Revera Parkwood Manor (Fraser Health).

The outbreaks at Chilliwack General Hospital, Rideau Retirement Residence, Norman Manor, Menno Terrace West (Fraser Health), Overlander, Haven Hill Retirement Centre and Deni House (Interior Health) have been declared over, for a total of 33 active outbreaks.

Here is the update on the outbreaks in Interior Health:

  • Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 70 cases: 55 residents and 15 staff, with 17 deaths connected to the outbreak.
  • Village by the Station long-term care in Penticton has 41 cases: 27 residents and 14 staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
  • Sun Pointe Village long-term care in Kelowna has 10 cases: seven residents and three staff.
  • Brocklehurst Gemstone long-term care in Kamloops has six cases: four resident and two staff.
  • Royal Inland Hospital unit 5S in Kamloops has 25 cases: 19 patients and six staff with one death connected to the outbreak.
  • Millar College of the Bible in Tappen has 31 cases.

As of today, 90.3 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 86.0 per cent have had two doses.

From Oct. 29 to Nov. 4, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 65.5 per cent of cases. From Oct. 22 to Nov. 4, they accounted for 70.7 per cent of hospitalizations.
