Suspicious fire behind store

A fire behind a Kelowna business is being investigated by RCMP.

Kelowna fire crews responded to a report of smoke behind the Home Sense store at 1575 Banks Road around 5:00 p.m. Friday.

“The first arriving officer reported a fire in a trash/recycling compactor. The fire was contained to the compactor with some light smoke that migrated into the store,” said Captain Tim Light.

Sprinklers were activated in the area which helped contain the fire until crews arrived.

No injuries were reported at the incident.

“The fire is suspicious in nature and the RCMP are in charge of the investigation,” said Light.
