B.C.’s COVID-19 numbers not showing any major swings

The daily COVID-19 statistics show 326 new cases in British Columbia with 88 in Interior Health.

Interior Health now has 561 active cases, up two from Monday.

The province is reporting 2,814 active infections, a drop of 62 from the previous day.

Going into Tuesday, B.C.’s weekly average was 352 new cases while the weekly hospitalization average has declined to 279.

Of the active cases, 242 people are in hospital and 82 are in intensive care.

As for the other health regions:

  • Fraser Health had 92 new cases, with 930 active cases
  • Vancouver Coastal had 53 new cases, with 471 active.
  • Northern Health had 22 new, and 261 active.
  • Island Health recorded 71 new cases, with 591 active.

Five cases of the Omicron variant of concern (VOC) have been confirmed in B.C., three of which are in Vancouver Coastal Health and two in Fraser Health. All five cases are related to international travel.

Since Monday, one new death (Northern Health) has been reported, for an overall total of 2,363.

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks, for a total of five facilities with ongoing outbreaks, including one in Interior Health at Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops.

As of today, 85.6 per cent of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 82 per cent have had two doses, and 11 per cent (504,977 residents) have received a third dose.
