Murder charge laid in Kelowna homicide

The death of a man in Kelowna almost two months ago has resulted in a woman facing a murder charge.

Kelowna RCMP was called to a residence in the 600 block of Bechard Road on the morning of Oct. 18, 2021 where they located the body of a dead man whose death was believed to be suspicious.

“A female suspect was arrested at the scene in connection with the investigation and released without charge,” said Constable Solana Paré.

The latest development came this week when the BC Public Prosecution Service approved a charge of second degree murder in relation to the case.

“On Dec. 8, Kelowna RCMP arrested the suspect in Kamloops,” Paré informed.

Billie Jo Bennett, a 54-year-old woman from the Kelowna area, remains in custody and is awaiting further court proceedings.

The victim’s name has not been released, nor has any further information on the case.
