Interior Health recorded 92 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday
COVID-19 cases continue to climb in the Interior .
With 92 new cases confirmed in the region Wednesday, the active case count for the Interior rose to 641.
The cases were part of 584 confirmed across B.C., bringing the province’s active case count up to 3,458.
The Ministry of Health noted that 1193 British Columbians were in hospital due to COVID-19 complications Wednesday, 77 of whom are in intensive care.
The province also confirmed seven new deaths Wednesday. Two were reported in both the Fraser Health and the Island Health regions, while three were confirmed in Northern Health’s jurisdiction. A total of 2,393 British Columbians have now died due to the virus.
The provincial vaccination rate for British Columbians aged five and rover rose to 86.7 per cent for first doses and 82.4 per cent for second jabs Wednesday.
It’s noted that for the 12 and over age group the vaccination rates as of Wednesday were 92 per cent 91.6 per cent for first doses, 88.46 per cent for second jabs, and 14 per cent for third or booster shots.
The Ministry of Health noted that the fully vaccinated are now accounting for more COVID-19 cases, but still make up significant fewer hospitalizations.
In the past week the fully vaccinated accounted for 51.1 per cent of new cases, while the unvaccinated made up 46.6 per cent of new cases.
Meanwhile the unvaccinated accounted for 66.7 new patients admitted to hospital due to COVID-19 in the past two weeks, while the fully vaccinated made up just 28 per cent of COVID patients.
There were no new health-care facility outbreaks listed Wednesday, and outbreaks in the Fraser Health and Northern Health regions have been declared over. The only health-care facility that remains classified as an outbreak site is the Ponderosa Lodge long-term care centre in the Interior.
