Hospitalizations down, Interior Health leading in new cases

Interior Health had the most new COVID-19 infections in B.C. for a second straight day with 370, down slightly from the 376 on Tuesday.

Active cases in the region were at 7,191, a drop of 653.

The province reported 1,187 new cases, with 21,974 active cases. Of the active cases, 893 COVID-positive individuals are in hospital (down by 93) and 143 are in intensive care (down by 3).

After no deaths on Tuesday, there were 18 on Wednesday, including two in Interior Health, five in Vancouver Coastal, four in both Fraser and Island Health and two in Northern Health.

There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at Sidney All Care (Island Health).

The outbreaks at Louis Brier Home and Hospital (Vancouver Coastal Health) and Victoria General Hospital (Island Health) have been declared over, for a total of 54 facilities with ongoing outbreaks.

Twenty of the outbreaks are in Interior Health, as shown below.

  • Gillis House nursing home in Merritt
  • Pondarosa assisted living in Kamloops
  • Castleview Care Centre assisted living in Castlegar
  • Overlander Residential Care assisted living in Kamloops
  • Spring Valley Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna
  • Village by the Station assisted living in Penticton
  • Creekside Landing assisted living in Vernon

As of today, 90.3 per cent of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 84.8 per cent have had two shots and 50.6 per cent of residents 12 and older have had three shots.
