West Kelowna’s mayor has announced plans to seek a second term in office.

In a news release, Gord Milsom said he has delivered on the goals of his 2018 campaign, and is excited about the future ahead with more to accomplish.

“Truly making West Kelowna a better place for future generations is deeply rooted from his business expertise and the long-standing, trusting and progressive relationships he has with others,” the news release stated.

Under his leadership, Milsom said West Kelowna has moved forward with long overdue investment in municipal infrastructure including progress in the construction of the new Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant, road improvements — such as the upgrades to Glenrosa Road and the Carrington/Gellatly Roundabout — and the start of the building of the community’s first city hall in collaboration with the Okanagan Regional Library and Westbank First Nation.

Milsom said more work needs to be done to address local priorities like attainable housing, power redundancy, Highway 97 improvements, impacts of climate change, community safety and further municipal infrastructure investment.

Prior to becoming mayor in 2018, Milsom served on the community’s first council after the “Westside District Municipality” was incorporated on December 6, 2007. He was re-elected as councillor in 2008 and again in 2011, serving a further six years.

Milsom was born and educated in Montreal and graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He moved to the Westside from Vancouver in 1992 with his wife, Laurel, and two children.

He operated a successful financial planning practice for 40 years prior to becoming mayor.

Civic elections in B.C. will be held on Oct. 15, 2022.
