Okanagan wildfire now ‘being held,’ evacuation order lifted
WEST KELOWNA, B.C. – There is good news for residents in the area of the Brenda Creek wildfire west of Peachland.
The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen has lifted an evacuation order for 41 properties.
An evacuation alert put in place on July 14 for a portion of the Central Okanagan West Electoral Area has been rescinded. That includes the area south of Highway 97-C and northwest of Peachland. The rural area is made up mostly of Crown land, 18 properties with registered owners and three recreational campsites safe for the public. A detailed map is available showing the rescinded Alert area at cordemergency.ca.
That fire, which started July 14, is now classified by the BC Wildfire Service as being held.
“With this status change, this will be the final Wildfire of Note update for this fire,” the BCWS stated.
The size is estimated at 824 hectares, with the cause under investigation.
