Police officer suffers serious injuries

A police officer was taken to hospital after being injured while responding to an incident this morning in Kelowna.

The officer was dispatched to a disturbance in the 1000 block of Ellis Street just after midnight on Sunday, March 27. Shortly after arriving, the officer requested immediate assistance after becoming injured from a stab wound.

Other officers arrived to help which resulted in the arrest of the suspect. Both the officer and the suspect were transported to Kelowna General Hospital.

The Mountie suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, while the suspect suffered non-life threatening injuries.

“Our officers face danger and difficult circumstances each and everyday in the service of this community. Tonight, I am grateful for the incredible work they did in supporting each other and responding to this event. Our thoughts remain with the officer and their family,” said Insp. Adam MacIntosh Operations Officer, Kelowna RCMP.

The investigation team is asking any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police or have video footage of the incident to please contact the Kelowna RCMP at (250) 763-3300.
