Interior records 61 new COVID-19 cases as provincial hospitalizations declined

Interior Health was home to 61 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, the fourth most new cases in the province.

The cases were part of 287 identified throughout B.C.;

  • Interior Health: 61
  • Fraser Health: 75
  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 67
  • Island Health: 63
  • Interior Health: 61
  • Northern Health: 21

There was one death recorded in Northern Health’s jurisdiction, bringing the provincial COVID-19 death toll to 2,990.

The number of British Columbians in hospital with COVID-19 was recorded at 273 Tuesday, down 15 from the day before. Of those patients, 46 were in intensive care, down two from Monday.

The provincial COVID-19 vaccination rate for eligible British Columbians age five and older was recorded at 90.8 per cent for first doses and 87.3 per cent for second jabs.

Additionally, 57.5 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and older have received a booster shot.

There was a new health-care facility outbreak identified in the Island Health region. As of Tuesday there were seven facilities listed as active outbreak sites, though none of them were located in the Interior.
