First responders rushed to Okanagan Lake this afternoon (Mar. 30) after receiving reports of a canoe flipping and two people falling into the water.

The City of Vernon said Vernon Fire Rescue arrived on the scene in the 8200-block of Tronson Road at around 2:30 p.m., where they found the two people getting close to the shoreline.

Once the pair were out of the water, they were helped to a nearby location and assessed by paramedics who were on the scene.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP say the two canoeists were helped from the water and brought to shore by nearby residents prior to the arrival of emergency responders.

“No injuries were reported at the time and all the involved individuals were assessed and treated by BC Ambulance Service personnel,” said Constable Chris Terleski, media relations officer.
