Home damaged by fire
A home in Kelowna sustained significant damage to the kitchen after a fire broke out Monday evening.
Firefighters rushed to the scene in the 400 block of Laurel Road around 6:30 p.m., with the first crew on the scene reporting heavy black smoke coming from the rear of the structure.
“Crews deployed a hose line and quickly knocked down the second story fire from the exterior. Crews then went into the structure to extinguish the remaining fire,” said Shayne Kiehlbauch, platoon captain.
Kiehlbauch said once the blaze was completely out, crews checked to make sure it didn’t extend into the attic space or walls.
“The fire did cause significant damage to the kitchen area, as well as smoke and water damage in the rest of the home.”
The captain said the fire is not suspicious and the occupants got out safely and are being looked after by Emergency Social Services.
“Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind residents to not leave cooking unattended,” Kiehlbauch added.
