A 22 year old man is in jail in connection with a stabbing death at Harvey and Gordon on Monday night. A 38 year old man was rushed to KGH but died from his injuries. Another man was injured, but was treated and released. Police say the men were not known to each other and they would like to hear from anyone that was in the area about 8:45pm.
A reminder that Central Okanagan cities are always on basic watering restrictions although it varies from city to city. Generally it involves odd and even numbered addresses. The best way to find your restrictions are to Google the city, followed by ‘water restrictions’.
If you have been to the grocery store, you don’t need us to tell you that it’s costing a lot more to fill up that shopping cart. Food prices increased by 7.7 percent year over year in March… the highest annual rate of food inflation since March 2009, according to Stats Canada. Prices for fresh or frozen beef increased 12.1 percent, while chicken was up about 7 percent.
An RCMP officer in Nanaimo took an alleged impaired driver off the road who had several student passengers on board heading to an extracurricular school event. A roadside breath-test was given to the woman, which she failed. She was given a 90-day roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded. No comment from the school district.
During National Volunteer Week, Interior Health is thanking more than 4,800 volunteers across the region. It’s also grateful for the efforts of many hospital foundation auxiliary staff and volunteers that are dedicated to advancing health care through fundraising and support services. This year, the theme is ‘Volunteering is Empathy in Action,’ a phrase that captures the importance of volunteer contributions to the health system.

The Regional District is working toward removing a houseboat that’s abandoned on the Okanagan Lake shoreline of Bear Creek Provincial Park. Letters are going to the BC ministers of Land, Water and Resource Stewardship and Environment asking for their help with the immediate removal of the grounded vessel.
If you’re driving on studded tires, they need to be off the vehicle by Saturday. They can only be used on BC roads between October 1 and April 30. Using them outside that window could bring a fine.
With pandemic restrictions easing across Canada, a House of Commons committee was told that new variants of COVID will continue to emerge every few months unless the low vaccination rate in poorer countries rises. The international organization leading the distribution of vaccines to the developing world reported in the poorest 18 countries, less than 10 percent of people are fully vaccinated. In Canada, 82 percent of the population has had 2 doses.

The Vancouver Canucks’ season will end on Friday. A Dallas win in a shootout against Vegas last night gave them the points they needed to stay ahead of Vancouver no matter what happens. Last night, the Canucks took a 5-2 win over Seattle. The L-A Kings visit Rogers Arena tomorrow.
In Toronto, the Blue Jays picked up a 6-5 win in 10 innings against Boston at Rogers Centre yesterday. Two more games against the BoSox, today and tomorrow.
Canada lost to Czechia in overtime yesterday at the World U-18 Hockey Championships in Germany to end the round robin with 1 win and 2 losses. Canada will play Finland in a quarterfinal game tomorrow morning at 5:30.
It has been revealed that Major League Baseball fined the New York Yankees 100-thousand dollars in 2017 following an investigation into sign-stealing allegations. MLB determined that the Yankees used their video replay room to decipher signs and relay them to a hitter through a runner on second base.
