Interior Health has confirmed that there is a COVID-19 outbreak at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH).

An Interior Health (I-H) spokesperson told Vernon Matters that, as of Sunday, May 15, there were 22 cases associated with the outbreak, including 11 patients and 11 staff.

The outbreak was concentrated to Unit 3E, which is a surgical unit.

I-H could not comment on the condition of the infected individuals, though did state that there have been no deaths linked to the current outbreak.

Infection control and prevention measures are in place in the affected unit. That includes limiting visitors to essential individuals and personnel only, and testing everyone in the unit for the virus.

The remainder of the hospital, including Emergency, remains open and appointments are being upheld.

The previous COVID-19 outbreak at KGH was first declared on April 12, 2022. That outbreak was declared over on April 25.
